Introduction of New Syllabus Foundation Programme Examinations
Introduction of New Syllabus Foundation Programme Examinations from June 2018 Session
The Foundation Programme being the entry level to the Company Secretaryship Course and gateway to the profession of Company Secretaries, the Syllabus Review Committee based on the feedback received from various stakeholders has completed the formulation of detailed contents of the Foundation Programme.
Salient Features and Requirements
The salient features of the new syllabus for the same is summarized below :-1. Effective date for New Syllabus
- The new syllabus of Foundation Programme will be effective from 1st April 2017.
- There are four subjects under the new syllabus viz.
PAPER 1: BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT AND LAW
PAPER 2: BUSINESS MANAGEMENT, ETHICS & ENTREPRENEURSHIP
PAPER 3: BUSINESS ECONOMICS
PAPER 4: FUNDAMENTALS OF ACCOUNTING AND AUDITING
2. First Examination
First examination under this new syllabus will be held from June 2018 session of CS examinations.3. Switchover to new syllabus
The automatic switchover of all such Old Syllabus students has been affected in the system and no exemptions will be effected for any subject. This means that if any student has scored 60% above marks in any of the examinations, no exemption will be provided, as the same has been stand cancelled by the notification by ICSI. • The students under Syllabus (2012) compulsorily switched over to Syllabus (2017) would be provided with Study Material free of cost for Foundation Programme under Syllabus (2017) in their respective subjects.

The Institute of Company Secretaries of
India (ICSI) has designed the proposed curriculum for the CS
Professional Programme Course. The revision of ICSI syllabus is a
continuous process towards capacity building, knowledge enhancement and
skills development of Company Secretary students.
The CS executive students shall gain optimum output from the revised syllabus which incorporated regulatory and structural changes in last few years. The underlying Guiding Principles in formulation of syllabus are as under:
Oppression & mismanagement, frauds, Class Action Suits, Inquiries, Inspection & Investigation, Compounding/ Consents/ Adjudication under various Corporate & allied laws, Arbitration, Mediation and Conciliation, Prevention of Money Laundering
Paper 16: Multidisciplinary Case Studies
Comprehensive and integrated application of knowledge involving multiple areas
To provide knowledge of best principles in Governance & Ethics, Sustainability aspects in business and insight into Risk Compliance Management Systems.
Part A: Governance (50 Marks)
To acquire advanced expert knowledge on practical application on Customs and GST Laws and working knowledge on practical application of Corporate taxation including International Tax.
To provide expert knowledge of drafting, documentation and advocacy techniques.
To provide expert knowledge of legal, procedural and practical aspects of Corporate Restructuring, Insolvency, Liquidation & Winding-up.
To provide practical knowledge of means of finance available to corporate at their stage of journey, their suitability, pros and cons, process, compliances etc.
Part-A: Corporate Funding (60 Marks)
To acquire knowledge of various kinds of corporate disputes under various laws and their resolution.
To test the students in their theoretical, practical and problem solving abilities.
Case studies mainly on the following areas:

competency required for performance of role by a Company Secretary to

(d) To facilitate employability of new
members and groom their skills and confidence to enable them to venture
into Practice on their own.
(e) To develop skills and competence of
executive programme passed students to act as Secretarial Executive in
companies or in professional and consultancy firms.

CS Executive New Syllabus | ICSI New Syllabus 2017
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICS) has approved the new syllabus (Syllabus 2017) for the Executive Programme of the Company Secretaryship (CS) Course. The New Syllabus shall comprise of Eight papers at Executive Programme.
The Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India in exercise of the powers vested under clause (a) of subsection (2) of Section 15 of the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, as amended by the Company Secretaries (Amendment) Act, 2006 approved the new syllabus (Syllabus 2017) for the Executive and Professional Programmes of the Company Secretaryship Course.
The new syllabus has been developed after extensive deliberations and brainstorming, adopting 360 degree approach by Core Group on Vision New ICSI 2022 under the Chairmanship of CS Pavan Kumar Vijay, Past President, ICSI. The same was subsequently deliberated and approved by the Syllabus Review Board.

Applicability of New Syllabus for CS Executive Programme Candidates

First Exam Dec 2018:
The first examination of the CS Executive Programme under the new syllabus shall be held in December, 2018

Registration Starts March 2018:
Candidates registered effective from 1st March, 2018
shall be examined under the new syllabus 2017. That means if you
registered prior to 01-03-2018 shall be allowed to appear in the
Executive Program Examination under the old syllabus 2013 upto and
including December, 2019.

Option to Appear under New Syllabus:
Candidates registered prior to 1st March, 2018 will be permitted to
appear in the Executive Program Examination under the new syllabus if
they so opt.

Last Exam under Old Syllabus:
The last examination of the Executive Programme under the old syllabus shall be held in December, 2019.
